World's first femtocell plugfest

picoChip participated in the world's first femtocell plugfest last month. The event, run by The Femto Forum in cooperation with ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute), featured over 20 companies, the majority using picoChip silicon.

The plugfest is a key step in proving the 3GPP standards that will drive the economies of scale required to make HSPA+ femtocells into genuine mass market products.

picoChip showcases at CTIA

At the recent CTIA Wireless 2010 event, picoChip's picoXcell femtocell silicon was on show within a number of customer products, and as part of an over-the-air demonstration on AirHop Communications’ stand.

The company also participated in the Femto Forum's Femtozone, where Director of Corporate Marketing Andy Gothard shared his thoughts on what the ecosystem needs to deliver to realize the full potential of femtocells.

Femtocells Asia 2010

The Femtocells Asia 2010 conference brought the latest updates from femtocell deployments around the Asia-Pacific region.  There was also news of new trials world-wide, and analysis of market size and timeframe from leading analysts. Delegates also heard about progress in the standards arena, and saw presentations and exhibits from the major femtocell vendors and manufacturers.

picoChip was a Gold sponsor of the event and VP Marketing Rupert Baines offered his thoughts on the transition of femtocells, from trials to full commercial operator deployments.

picoChip has sponsored a group of 10 and 11 year olds from a local school, who have won a place in the European Finals of the Lego League Robotics competition.

The 'Widcombe Wrobotiers' designed a new transport system for Bath, in line with the competition brief of transforming transportation.  They will compete against children all over the world at the finals in Istanbul, after successfully raising £12,000 sponsorship to fund the trip.
